Description

Memory Heat Spreaders are a great way to help your RAM perform better by dissipating the heat and spreading it out. The Thermaltake Truelight LED Memory Heat Spreader takes it one step further by adding five blue LED's to make it perform for you as well. The five LED's will perform eight different patterns depending on which you select. "What? I get to select the pattern as well?" With a simple press of the button on the PCI slot installed button, you can select which pattern you would like to see. Or, just hold the button down for two seconds and turn the LED's off.

This aluminum memory heat spreader can be used on all standard DDR module and SDRAM sticks. So cool your RAM, and get hypnotized by the patterns of the LED's with the Thermaltake Truelight LED Memory Heat Spreader.

Box

P/M : CL-C0001

- Dissipate RAM heat for improved cooling performance
- Easy installation
- Different Lighting mode, "COOL" your system

Intro

I have been around modding computers for a long while, before these new fangled mods showed up. I remember seeing a ram mod for the first time. Someone soldered LEDs to a circuit board and called it sweet, It was in a word VERY sweet. It could've been the other mods the case has inside; but for some reason, I was fixed on the moving LEDs on the ram modules... Well, now I got something to show him off.

This is the new Thermaltake TrueLight Memory Heat Spreader [Long name - Don't ya think?]. The name says "memory heat spreader", So I am expecting my ram to be cooler, and perform just as cool. Generally speaking, the "ThermalTake TrueLight Memory Heat Spreader" performs 2 jobs: (1) Cools down ram,(2) Adds [moving] color to your case. Because this is ThermalTake, the product should perform as advertised. However, we won't know until I try this new product out.

Thermaltake Truelight Packaging and First Thoughts

With the opening at the top of the package, It looks like something I could readily pick up at the local Circuit City. With one major difference, The package wasn't sealed for tamper-proofing. My lonely, plastic cutting scissors were left alone for this review [I made it feel better while trying to cut into Wal-Mart Cameras to try out]. For some people with noisy siblings, and other people; they would have wide access to do as they wish with it.

At a first glance, I noticed the red button - and I pressed the button for 10 minutes [It's a shiny red button, I couldn't help myself]. There is a thin film of plastic on top of the very smooth and shiny paintjob. While checking out the smooth paint, I noticed the top of the PCI slot was dented inwards. The "Mode Switch" leads to the 3-pinned power connector that goes into the main piece of this product. From there, the 3-pinn is connected to the Molex connector. It's important for me to say, the product can NOT be linked to another product after being connected, It will need to be the last item on any power supply connector. Let's move on to the main draw to this item though.

A shiny silver piece on top of what looks to be two heatsinks for ram. It's not much to look at right now, its just an empty shell of what I hope will come to a successful addition to my computer. For those that didn't guess already, there are 5 LEDs under the shiny "Thermaltake" light shield. These 5 LEDs have 8 modes that make normal memory... really dull. Anyhow, the Circuit board hidden below the silver light shield is really thin, and black. Under the board itself, is a "spongy" foam. The foam is there probably to give better protection to the board and the memory during installation, or electrical shorts. The LEDs were not shaped like they were bought from a store, and weren't rounded like I expected them to be; instead, the LEDs are rectangle. I'm a little skeptical on how bright these mini-LEDs are going to be in my case.
